I'm Tonia Ballard and this is why I'm a photographer.  When I was a little girl, I lived down the street from my grandfather who was a photographer for 40 years. As a little girl I remember developing pictures with him in his dark room, being the subject of his practicing, and helping him on photo shoots. It was something I developed a passion for since I was very young. I have been a photographer for the past 12 years, slowly growing my business on the side of raising 4 children. It is something I have always done because I love and have a passion for it. I love the idea of stopping a moment in time, an expression on someone’s face, that shows who that person really is. It is why I named my studio Edge of Expression because I feel like I am always on the edge of discovering and photographing the different expressions that make us all different, and human.

I specialize in photographing anything involving people and their expressions, such as weddings, families, portraits, children, infants, high school seniors, models, dance teams and sports teams. I photograph a lot on location, but also have a small studio, where I can have better control of temperature and light. It also has allowed me to expand my creativity with the use of backdrops and props. Clients love my work because it is creative, artistic, and captures the expressions that make them who they are.

So many photographers now days machine gun fire out a lot of images and send you home with a disk of the images. That is the equivalent to ordering a meal at a restaurant and having the chef bring you all the ingredients for you to put together yourself. When I take a photo, I have an artistic vision for that photo clear through to the printing. I want my sessions to be fun, full of expression and emotion, with a final product not only the client will love and treasure, but so will generations of their posterity.

We are all passionate something, whether it is the love of your life, a sport, dance, a musical instrument, the people around us, or just passionate about life in general. There is no better way to capture that passion and remember moments of time than through photography. So, allow my passion to capture your passion. Love the life you live, express yourself to the ones you love, and remember it through photography forever.
